Classroom to gallery Space
This past Friday I turned our classroom into a gallery space by filling the rooms with the work from our latest assignment, "Art with a Message" Two dimensional work was hung, the 3D work was put on the tables and cabinets, and the room was transformed.
Students from different classes get a piecemeal view of what each other is doing because their work is stored or put aside. The gallery is a way for the students to get a big view of what everyone is doing. They come in and wander around and take in all the different looks, styles and ideas. Its pretty exciting to watch and to listen in to the conversations.
Then we have a crit, and for those of you not familiar with the term its short for critique but its a time for students to hone their arts vocabulary explain what they think works or doesn't while using formal analysis, as I am not looking for "I like" or "I don't like" because I am going to ask "why."
Its a full and tiring day honestly, but well worth it because they get to see their own as well as fellow students work in a whole new light. Below are some images of the room. Since I was busy buzzing around the talking, poking, prodding, questioning, commenting, observing, I didn't get a chance to take any pictures during the even itself, but you will at least get a look at how transformed the room was.
The pictures aren't to really see the work as much as it is the room and how full it was. As soon as I get the pictures shot of the work I will get that posted under the Assignments section.

TAEA Conference 2013
Mr Percevecz was selected to deliver two different presentations at this years Texas Art Educators Associations annual conference.
"I Love Cross Curriculum and You Can Too" and "Embrace the Pixel and Expand Your World" were both delivered to a very receptive crowd. It was a thrill to present to my fellow colleagues in an environment that is about sharing and growing professionally.

Field trip-Billings Productions
Billings Productions is on the forefront of animatronic exhibits in the world. They merge science, robotics, research, art and more to create one of a kind exhibits. A perfect location for a group of art students.
University of Texas at Tyler
On November 1st I took some of the more enthusiastic art students to University of Texas at Tyler for their High School Art Day. They were able to see college level studio art classes and demonstrations in ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, and painting
The highlight I think most would agree was watching the sculpture students cast a couple of pieces in aluminum. Working with fire, and liquid metal is always impressive. We were fortunate enough that they were able to break the pieces out while we were there as well.
The ceramics department caught the eye of a couple of Leonard HS students and they rolled out a slab of clay and let them go to town creating a tablet. Some of the students did work on ceramic tiles that the University is going to fire for us. I was surprised when they said they were also going to fire the tablet for us as well.
The students had a great time and were exposed to a whole new idea of what a school can be.
See below for the tablet.

Banksy in nyc
To some Banksy is an graffiti artist, to some he is a vandal, others don't understand how his simple style and street style has garnered the attention of the art world at all.
Regardless of your point of view, he delighted and ruffled feathers with his month long "residency on the streets of New York City." After he tagged his wall the art took on a life of its own and became performance art as the pro and anti Banksy camps would take over searching for his latest work.
After tagging his wall (there were some other pieces not just graffiti but that was the bulk of it) he would post a picture online and give a neighborhood it was located it, and then the scavenger hunt began. The pro-Banksy group wanting to be the first to see the piece. The anti-Banksy group would be out to cover over his work, and the police were out to find and arrest him for vandalizing.
The vandalizing charge is not unusual for what he did, painting on walls with spray paint, but when it increases the value of the wall or building its hard to make that argument. A strange paradox indeed.
